Top Ten Tuesday: Drama/Comedy TV Shows that Deserves More Attention

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together

I’m so excited for today’s prompt because I really need to see what everyone has been watching and I also want to share my favorite Drama/Comedy series that I have been watching for years!

Modern Family

I’ve been binge-watching this series for the last three months, I have no idea why I didn’t watch this series sooner!

Modern family is about three diverse families. Jay Pritchett is remarried to a much younger latina, Gloria and has a step son. Jay has two children from her previous marriage, Claire who married to Phil Dunphy and has 3 children, and Mitchell who married with Cameron Tucker and adopt an asian baby!

This family is disastrous most of the time but also sweet and supporting! I love how every families have their own issues but managed to involve the big family into their problems. This show is hillarious!

The Goldbergs

The Goldbergs is one of my favorite family show. Set in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, the story follows little Adam, the youngest of three siblings who’s also a geek and obsessed with movie making. The movie is entirely from Adam’s POV as he sees life in the 80’s through his lazy eyes and camera lens.

He always filmed his activities in the house with his video tape, mostly the shouting at each other part, which I found very hilarious because the scenes are always relatable, it’s the very problems we may have faced in our house.

I actually have write a blog post abut this series, you can read it here if you want!

The Middle

Oh God I LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH, and I’m in literal tears when they end this series last year after a long nine season!

It’s about a lower middle class family lives in Indiana and try to get a hold of their live by working multiple jobs while raising three children. I love every characters they are so unique. this show is the most relatable show about family I’ve ever seen in a while!

Black-ish

Black-ish is about an upper middle class African-American family. The story is so refreshing, it tackle a lot of issues in the community, mainly racism.

Fresh Off the Boat

Another diverse TV show you can watch. The story follows a family of Taiwanese from the point of view of Eddie Huang, the middle child. His father is living the dream by opening a steak restaurant, his mother struggles with cultural clash, his younger brothers fit in perfectly while Eddie struggles to find a seat in cafetaria because of his lunch his mother made.

This show give us an understanding of the struggle to be an immigrant, it’s so hillarious!

Speechless

The show follows DiMeo family, the characters have different unique personality, Maya is in charge for everything in the family, she’s a fun and super cool mom, Jimmy is also a fun dad, eccentric, and he doesn’t care about what people think, their oldest Son JJ is disabled and can’t speak for himself, he has a board attached to his wheelchair and use a laser to point out every words he’s going to say and I love that everyone in the family is very supportive, Ray the middle child is the only one who make senses in the family, and the youngest Dylan is the athletic and tomboy daughter.

American Housewife

American Housewives is about Katy Otto as she tries to stand out as a housewife of middle class family who lives in upper class neighborhood. I love that Katy is so comfortable in her own skin and not consumed by those upper class lifestyle.

Splitting Up Together

A couple decided to divorce after years of marriage. The couple has three kids who live in the house with one parent on alternating weeks while the other parent lives as a single person who stays in the garage apartment in back of the house.

We get to witness how this couple are drifting apart and it’s really sad, but their relationship is going up and down as they live as single parents, there’s this slow burn romance between them as they realized they still need each other.

Superstore

This show is set in a fictional supermarket named Cloud 9 and it tells the story of the employees’ daily lives in that superstore. The love triangle, the soft-hearted boss, the mean assistant manager, it’s so funny and light! The crews are also quite diverse.

Reply 1988

If I could only recommend one K-Drama for the rest of my life, I will, with no doubt, recommend this show over and over!

This show is about five friends who lives in a lower class neighborhood. This is a story about family and love story of the main character, there are some heartbreaking moments that will make you cry helplessly and some happy moments that will warm your heart. Set in 1988, we could see the old trends are on point and it really make you nostlagic.

Plus Park Bo Gum is at his finest!!!!!

  1. I love The Middle and Modern Family! They are such pure, heartfelt shows, even if they’re so different from one another hahaha They always crack me up, which is not too easy to do if I’m being honest. So I know the humour is top notch 🙂

I’m intrigued about the others as well, especially American Housewife and Reply 1988. I haven’t watched a K-drama in months! I’d love to start again, because they’re honestly the cutest thing ever. And I need cute things in my life.

    Great post, Carolina ❤
