Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together
This week’s prompt is anything related to school so I choose to feature my favorite books with magic school and school for kid with extraordinary abilities setting! And ummm of course they’re mostly middle-grade books, I hope you’re not tired of me recommending you MG books 😂
Harry Potter
Why of course I have to include this book on the list! It would be a sin if I don’t, I mean it’s kinda like the pioneer of magic school!
Hogwarts is where it all started for me, I’m pretty sure it’s the same for you too!
Percy Jackson and the Olympian
It’s not exactly a school, it’s more like a camp, but it’s home to Demigods so you can count this one in!
Camp Half Blood is my second favorite place after Hogwarts, there are so many fun activities and so many friendly people!
Keeper of the Lost Cities
There’s this prestigious school for Elves called Foxfire in this book. Grades in Foxfire are called Levels. There are eight levels altogether, but only the first six are available to all elves. The Elite Levels, Levels Seven and Eight, only allow elves with abilities to study and learn there.
Elves has different abilities, but some are not manifested at all. They got some cool abilites like telepath, empath, technopath, mesmer, vanisher, and so many other cool abilities!
Nevermoor
The Wundrous Society is not exactly school, it’s the most prestigious organisation in Nevermoor that allow only extraordinary talented kid.
The School for Good and Evil
It’s the school for good and evil. Where good kids are placed in the school for good and trained to be Prince or Princess while the bad kids are placed in the school for evil where they are trained to be evil Wizards or Witches! When they are graduated, they become the characters for an actual fairytale!
The Crowns of Croswald
The Hall of Ivy is divided into two programs, The Queens and The Scrivenists. Scrivenists are the discoverers who sketch and record all that they see and have photographic memory. And The Queens are who the Scrivenerist get assigned to serve once they graduate from school.
I have to say that the school is very similar to Hogwarts though. It has potion study, transfiguraton, a dining hall with ghosts, and so many more resemblances to HP.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
It’s a home for the peculiars! They each have unique abilities that nobody could ever think of! Some of the abilities are flying, see monsters, invisible, could wake the dead, has bees inside his body, and so many other peculiar abilities!
Miss Peregrine is a ymbryne and the headmistress of her children’s-home, she keep the home in time loop so they don’t age a second!
Legend of Greg
There is this secret society of dwarves underground where the dwarf kids hang out and learn to become a proper dwarf. Some of the dwarves abilities are incredible, they could turn to stone in a great danger (the training is painful though)!! They have amazing individual skills too, our main character could grow plants out of nowhere (it sounds lame but believe me it’s surprisingly useful in combat),
Renegades
Renegades remind me so much of Sky High. It’s an elite academy of superhuman who learn to be heroes and protector of the city.
The abilites are super cool, Sketcher is my favorite, he could pull everything he sketch to life! Nightmare could put people to sleep, Cyanide could produce toxins from his body, Red Assassin could make a weapon out of her own blood!
The Magicians
Okay, I run out of idea so I included this adult fantasy book on the list. It’s Hogwarts meet Narnia but it’s much much darker. I like the first book but never continue to read the rest of the series because I lost interest, plus it’s not really my cup of tea, so many adult and serious stuff going on and it makes me sick.
Have you read any of this books? Do you like them? What’s your favorite? Do you know other book with magic or superpower school setting? Let me know!
Some excellent books here!
I really need to read Renegades, it’s been on my TBR forever!

You always have great books on your list! I found Nevermoor in the local bookstore but for some reason that I can’t figure out I thought it was a part of a long series and didn’t get it 😦

Magical schools are my favorite thing 😍 Hogwarts is of course on the top of my list as well! But as much as I love Camp Half-Blood I don’t know if I would want to go there, especially with all the monsters outside of Camp 😮

The Demigod world is indeed scary! But if I ever go there, let’s hope the oracle is not choosing me to go on quests LOL.

Oh yay, this is such a fun list! Harry Potter and PJO are obviously one of my favorites too, and you know for sure I’m going to read Nevermoor; that’s one of my predicted 5-star reads. 😉 And I didn’t know Renegades had a magic school in it, but I’m excited because I recently committed to reading it someday! Oh, and The Magicians; I did not like this book whatsoever (too nihilistic for my taste), but I will admit that the school had some pretty wild and entertaining stuff going on behind the scenes. Cough, drugs! Cough, rampant sex! lol 😂😂

Yassss I’m so glad to hear you’re going to read Nevermoor!! Renegades has some sort of superhero school, like skyhigh!! It’s awesome.
I actually didn’t like The Magicians so much, I love the worldbuilding but that’s it. So many sex and drugs for sure!
