Calendar Girls: Best Novel Set in Summer

Hey y’all how do you guys feel now that summer is over? I live in a tropical country so normally it’s always summer here but I don’t know why it’s so freezing recently, I hardly ever sweat anymore even during the day. I never thought I’d miss the sun, seriously what happened with this sudden drop of temperature?

Anyway, I’m participating in this fun meme, have you heard about The Calendar Girls?

The Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile, and is now hosted by Adrienne at Darque Dreamer Reads, and Katie at Never Not Reading. It was inspired by the 1961 classic song by Neil Sedaka and created to ignite fun bookish discussions among readers and bloggers.

Each month we will vote between two themes, and when the theme is decided we have to choose one book around the theme to post and discuss in our blog. The other fun part is there will be a group twitter chat to discuss about the books we picked! If you’re interested to participate you could visit Adrienne’s or Katie’s blog to learn more about the meme!

This month’s theme is BEST NOVEL SET IN SUMMER! I don’t read much romance/contemporary novel but I just finished this and I thought it’d be perfect to show you guys this book!

35997816Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her to join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.

While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.

Daisy has been invisible for her entire life, so when her sister Ellie is engaged to the Prince of Scotland, she’s also dragged to the spotlight, and she didn’t like it. Daisy is nothing like her perfect sister, she’s reckless, can’t keep her mouth shut, and everything’s a joke to her, so you could imagine how much troubles she got herself into. And all that troubles led her to the castle.

The palace didn’t want her to do anything stupid so they flew Daisy to Scotland for the rest of summer to keep her away from the media, but trouble always come to Daisy no matter where she is. I actually love Daisy’s character, sure she’s annoying sometimes but she’s so real and live! I love all the other characters too, there’s this guy Miles, I think he’s a mix of Adam + Rowan from TRC, a really cute combination if you ask me! There are hate to love trope and slow burn romance which are my most favorite romance tropes so I was swoon the entire time!

This book is so funny, my jaw hurts from all the smiling and laughing! If you want to read a fun and light book you should definitely read this!

Do you participate in Calendar Girls too? Have you read this book? Do you like it? What do you think I should read if I like this book? Shoot your recommendation below! Thanks in advance 😘

  1. I actually HAVE seen this book before, and it looks completely adorable, but I was hesitant to add it because it looked sort of Princess Diaries-ish. You know, barely YA, practically Middle Grade. It sounds absolutely adorable though! Great pick!
